Lynceus · Compliance agents

Every asset. Every owner. Screened.

Lynceus compliance agents check the people, companies and transactions behind every asset you register, finance or trade. They screen for sanctions, hidden ownership, restricted jurisdictions, dual-use goods and politically exposed persons. Anything flagged goes to your team for a decision, and every decision is recorded in Horkos, our onchain audit trail.

What the agents check

Five checks, run on every party behind the asset.

Customers, suppliers and beneficial owners are all screened, because sanctions risk usually sits one company removed from the name on the paperwork.

01

Sanctioned entities & individuals

Names, aliases, dates of birth, passport numbers and national IDs checked against watchlists for customers, suppliers and beneficial owners.

02

Hidden ownership: the 50% rule

Finds a sanctioned person or entity that owns 50% or more of a seemingly clean company, or holds a controlling interest under EU rules.

03

Restricted jurisdictions

Flags IP addresses, SWIFT/BIC routing codes, shipping routes and physical addresses tied to comprehensively embargoed countries or regions, such as North Korea, Iran and Crimea.

04

Controlled & dual-use goods

Scans product descriptions and HS codes for items with both civilian and military uses, and for goods under sectoral bans such as luxury goods, specific technologies or oil price caps.

05

PEPs & adverse media

Identifies politically exposed persons and scans news for money laundering, corruption and sanctions-evasion networks.

Lynceus in the field

What screening looks like in practice.

Illustrative scenarios from the four sectors where Lynceus is live today. Details are invented; the checks are real.

A fleet of luxury SUVs and one shipping address too many

The situation
A buyer purchases several high-end vehicles and registers the manufacturer warranties, with delivery to a freight forwarder in a transit country.
What Lynceus checks
Restricted jurisdictions on the onward shipping route, luxury-goods sectoral bans, and sanctions screening on the buyer and the forwarder.
What happens
Flagged high and sent to a reviewer, who holds the warranty registrations and asks for end-use documentation. The decision is recorded in Horkos.

A commercial lessee with an owner nobody mentioned

The situation
A business signs a multi-year lease on a rooftop solar system, paid through a monthly plan.
What Lynceus checks
Ownership traced through the lessee’s holding company, PEP screening on every beneficial owner, and the bank routing details on the payment account.
What happens
The holding company traces back to a politically exposed person. Flagged medium for enhanced due diligence, and the lease goes ahead only after review.

A masterpiece bought through a shell company

The situation
A collector’s company makes an offer on a painting whose provenance is registered with Certifying Authority.
What Lynceus checks
Sanctions screening on the buyer and its directors, ownership tracing for the 50% rule, and adverse media.
What happens
A designated individual holds a controlling stake two layers up. Flagged high, the sale pauses for review, and the decision is recorded in Horkos.

An acquisition through layered SPVs

The situation
An investor group buys a UK office building through a chain of special-purpose vehicles in three jurisdictions.
What Lynceus checks
Company registries to trace every layer, sanctions and PEP screening on each beneficial owner, and news and court filings.
What happens
No owner is on a list, but news coverage links a minority investor to a corruption inquiry. Flagged low with the evidence attached, so the reviewer can clear it with a documented reason.
How it works

Agents do the screening. People make the calls.

Lynceus (LIN-see-us) is named for the Argonaut whose sight could pierce walls and see beneath the earth. It finds what’s hidden behind every asset, and a person makes every call.

  1. 01

    Gather

Agents pull from sanctions lists, company registries, trade feeds and news.

  2. 02

    Screen

Every party and transaction behind the asset runs through all five checks.

  3. 03

    Weigh

Findings are scored by severity, so serious risks reach a person first.

  4. 04

    Review

Flagged items go to a person, who decides what happens next.

  5. 05

    Record

Every decision is written to Horkos, our tamper-resistant onchain audit trail.

A person reviews every flag

The agents don’t make enforcement decisions on their own. Flagged items go to a reviewer, with the most severe at the top of the queue, so your team’s time goes where the risk is.

Horkos: an audit trail that can’t be quietly changed

Horkos, named for the Greek god who punished broken oaths, records every screening result and decision onchain through our partner. The record is tamper-resistant and ready the moment an auditor or regulator asks.

Where the data comes from

Official lists, ownership records, trade feeds and news.

Agents take in data through APIs, structured feeds and automated scanning, so new designations and enforcement actions show up in your screening quickly.

01 · Sanctions lists

Government & supranational lists

US OFAC SDN and Consolidated lists and the BIS Entity List; the EU Consolidated Financial Sanctions List; the UN Security Council Consolidated List; the UK Sanctions List and OFSI Consolidated List; and lists from Australia, Canada, Switzerland and Japan.

02 · Ownership

Corporate registries & UBO data

National business registries such as UK Companies House, plus commercial ownership databases, to trace parent-subsidiary chains and multi-layered ownership for the 50% rule.

03 · Trade

Customs, maritime & logistics

HS tariff schedules and dual-use control lists, plus AIS vessel tracking to catch dark-fleet behavior: transponders switched off, ship-to-ship transfers in high-risk waters, and vessels flagged to sanctioned states.

04 · Signals

Compliance data & global news

Normalized compliance data with fuzzy name matching, plus automated scanning of global news and court filings to catch enforcement actions before they reach official lists.

FAQ

Questions compliance teams ask

Ask us something else
Do the agents make decisions on their own?

No. Lynceus screens and scores what it finds by severity, then sends anything flagged to a person, who decides what happens. The most severe flags reach a reviewer first.

What does Horkos record?

The screening results and the decisions your team makes on them, written onchain through our partner. The record is tamper-resistant, so when an auditor or regulator asks, you can show exactly what was checked and who decided what.

Which assets can Lynceus screen?

Art and physical treasures such as gems; sacred and cultural assets; commercial real estate in the US and UK, with US residential in development; insurance policies; patents and trademarks; manufacturer warranties sold through car dealerships; solar leases and payment plans; and onchain transactions on any public chain, including tokenized stocks, money market funds, ETFs and stock derivatives.

How does the 50% rule work?

Under the US 50 Percent Rule, a company owned 50% or more, directly or indirectly, by one or more sanctioned parties is treated as sanctioned, even if it isn’t named on any list. EU rules also look at control. Lynceus traces ownership through company registries and ownership data to find those links.

Can Lynceus screen DeFi activity?

Lynceus screens onchain transactions on any public chain. AML screening built for DeFi platforms is currently in beta.

What happens with sacred or cultural assets?

They’re registered for preservation, not sale. Lynceus flags any attempt to monetize them and sends it to a reviewer.

Is Lynceus in production?

Yes. Clients in auto dealerships, solar leasing, art and commercial real estate use it today.
